Sophie Wedgwood’s documentary photographs explore the nuances of everyday life, distilling moments that might otherwise pass us by. Through her lens, subtle but poignant interactions resonate; often stripped of telling details or shot in black and white, her photographs tap into the universal emotions of her subjects. The portraits she captured in her local park during London’s lockdown and recently published in Vogue Italia evoke the same sense of being suspended in time. “Our raw feelings and our dramas are still the same as they always have been - love, loneliness, heartbreak, frailty,” she points out. Earlier this year, Sophie’s documentary work earned her the Magnum Photos Emerging Photographer Award as well as an honourable mention in The 15th Julia Margaret Cameron Award.
